“Writing is a form of freedom more accessible than many and there are forces at work that would like to withhold it from those whose stories most threaten the regimes that govern this society. Fuck them. Write your life. Let this (writing) be a totem of permission, encouragement, proof, whatever you need it to be.”
-Melissa Febos
Writing is my ultimate act of resilience. It keeps me tethered, it keeps me grounded. My writing voice is that of my highest self. She is wise. She is observant. She is the opposite of impulse and reactivity. She is knowing.
Words and sentences and stories help me make meaning of life. Leaning in to the human experience in its entirety is what connects us, and I hope you find pieces of yourself in my work. Whenever I read words that hit me with their relevance, I say “Oh my god, Me too. They get it.” And that’s typically the reprieve I need within both beauty and suffering of life- that ease that comes with the feeling of being understood.
I’ll keep writing with an open heart, and my hope is that you read with one, too.
This is the space where I share it. With you, my treasured reader.
This whole writing business is etched into my DNA. I just sort of stumbled into it, and it seems as if it chose me before I chose it. I was born into a family where my Dad was a renowned and brilliant sports writer and editor, and my Mom an English teacher. Words are inherent.
My teacher has desribed my writing and wrote this concise and (true) sentence, summing up my craft better than I could:
“Amanda is living proof that writing our stories heals the writer first, then reaches out to do the work of healing the reader.”
Thank you so much for clicking on this page, I’m beyond grateful for anyone who takes time out of their day to read what I have to say.
Proceed with an open mind. Read with an open heart.
